2023 Tribe Stirrings...
Drum Roll Please. 🥁 I'm thrilled to be helping to steward the drumming community together with this communication hub.
We currently have classes scheduled for 2023, every week, Monday evenings from 7-8:30 pm. Five instructors will each take different weeks, and each agreed to teach their unique flavor of various drumming rhythms for Djembe, Djun Djun, Frame Drum, Slaptop Cajon and more. There will be a few extra drums there for use on these evenings. Please bring a drum if you have one. This is such a great opportunity for those of us that want to learn how to play or improve on our drum! We have all played and learned together over a decade and are happy to make this available to the community. All of the instructors have played or taught professionally and have extensive education and personal practice commitments. They have also studied with Gordy Ryan, Grammy Award winning musician who travelled and performed with Babatunde Olatunji for over 20 years. They will all bring their own authentic style offerings with new experiences of rhythms for us to enjoy and practice with. These are considered beginning / intermediate, and FUN classes. We will also publish information on Facebook in the Community Drumming Group, which you are welcome to join. The new central location is at 21st and Harvard, in the east side of the Utica Park Clinic rented by Center of Light, located at the front of the building. Parking is available both in the front and back. A $10 suggested donation is asked for participants. |

Coming Spring/Summer/Fall of 2023
Snow Moon Photo by Ria Shultz, 2/2023; Full Moon Drumming Circle at Woodward Butterfly Park in 2022.
April or May, when weather warms, plans are to continue Full and New Moon drumming sessions at Woodward Park in the Butterfly Garden area through the Fall. Dates will be shown in the Calendar below starting in the Spring. Sessions are weather permitting. We are drumming "into" each moon phase, so usually it falls the day before any published Full or New Moon date/time. These are impromptu, allow-the-energies-to-move-us sessions that can include West African beats, Afro-Cuban, Yoruba, Congolese and many others. Please bring a folding chair and any kind/style of drum for these outdoor sessions. Percussionists and dancers welcome! Free.
